2018 Joint Macau Seminar
Following the success of last year’s joint seminar in Macau, the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the University of Macau (UM) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Macao (PSM), supported by HKAPI and the Western Medicine Association of Macao (WMAM), co-organized the second seminar of the “Learning from Our Neighbours” series to understand and compare the two cities’ pharmaceutical systems and healthcare planning strategies, with a focus on the healthcare public private partnership (PPP).

The seminar that took place on April 22, 2018 in the University of Macau was attended by around 140 people, including academics and industry representatives from the 5 organizers.

Dr. Carolina Ung (Instructor, Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, UM) kick-started the seminar with an overview of Macau’s pharmaceutical system, followed by Dr. Allen Cheung (Former HA Cluster Services Director) and Ms. Sharon Chio (Council Member, PSM)’s in-depth introduction of the public hospital enlistment and procurement policies of Hong Kong and Macau. In the afternoon session, Dr. Allen Cheung explained how Hong Kong’s healthcare PPP works; then Prof. Juliana Chan (Director, Hong Kong Institute of Diabetes and Obesity) presented to the audience a successful model of how PPP help improve treatment outcome in diabetes patients. Last but not least, Dr. Alvis Lo (Department Director & Geriatrician, Macau CHCSJ) talked about the present development and outlook of PPP in Macau for an aging population.
