Membership

There are four classes of Membership of the Association:

1. Full Membership

Full membership of the Association shall be extended to any company or its affiliate (but not both) engaged by way of clinical trials in research and/or the development of pharmaceutical containing a New Chemical or Biological Entity (an “NCE drug”), which, either itself or through its affiliate, has a real and effective industrial or commercial establishment in Hong Kong with an annual turnover of at least HK$10 million, and is either:

the holder of an NCE drug registration in Hong Kong; or
licensed as a wholesale dealer of an NCE drug in Hong Kong; or
licensed to manufacture (including repackaging) an NCE drug in Hong Kong or elsewhere to the PIC/S standard

2. Affiliate Membership

Affiliate membership of the Association shall be extended to any company or its affiliate (but not both) not qualified to be a full member of the Association but which, either itself or through its affiliate, has a real and effective industrial or commercial establishment in Hong Kong with an annual turnover of at least HK$500 million, and is not qualified to be a full member, but and is at least two of the following:

the holder of an NCE drug registration in Hong Kong;
licensed as a wholesale dealer of an NCE drug in Hong Kong; or
licensed to manufacture (including repackaging) an NCE drug in Hong Kong or elsewhere to the PIC/S standard

Affiliate members shall be entitled to the same services as full members and be entitled to attend, speak and vote at general meetings of the Association, but shall only by invitation of the Board [or the Executive Director] be entitled to attend other meetings of the Association, and shall be eligible to stand for election to the Board (other than as President or Vice President).

3. Associate Membership

Associate membership of the Association shall be extended to any firm or company not otherwise qualified to be a full or affiliate member of the Association but with a real and effective industrial or commercial establishment in Hong Kong engaged in providing healthcare products, or has genuine and verifiable plans to commence such activity in Hong Kong within the following two years. Associate members shall be entitled to attend and speak, but not to vote, at general meetings of the Association, and by invitation of the Board [or the Executive Director] to attend or observe in other meetings and activities of the Association, but shall not be eligible for election to the Board.

4. Catalyst Membership

Catalyst membership of the Association shall be extended to professional service firms that are knowledge intensive organizations providing expert services to the pharmaceutical industry; universities and other academic institutionsthat are connected with the pharmaceutical industry; and other non-government [non-profit] organizations that are connected with the pharmaceutical industry. Supporter members shall be entitled to attend and speak, but not to vote, at general meetings of the Association, and by invitation of the Board [or the Executive Director] to attend or observe in other meetings and activities of the Association, but shall not be eligible for election to the Board.

Each Full Member and Affiliate Member is entitled to have one vote.

As of January 2024, there are 31 Full Members, 4 Affiliate Members, 32 Associate Members and 5 NGO members.

Full Members
